Watch: "Grease: Live" Cast Are Pumped on T-Birds Jackets

There are plenty of iconic looks from the movie Grease, but for the male stars of Fox's Grease: Live, it was all about one thing: the leather jackets each member of the T-Birds wears.

So, naturally, it was the first thing the guys were fitted for. Star Carlos PenaVega, who plays Kenickie, tells E! News that they actually got to choose the ones they wear from a giant rack of different leather jackets.

"They brought us a rack with, like, I don't know, 50 or 60 jackets. We just tried them on. It was kind of like the slipper in Cinderella—it was like 'Oh, this is it. This one fits. This is the one.'"

Once the jackets were sorted, they could rehearse in earnest. Says Jordan Fisher, who plays Doody, "There's nothing like feeling the part! Putting that on I just felt like a T-Bird. We all started rehearsing in jackets from day three."

Yes, the Fox live production is a slightly updated version of the show that combines elements from both the stage musical and the classic movie—it's still set in the '50s, don't worry—but the costumes will have the same look you grew up watching on John Travolta.

"You'll recognize it," teases star Aaron Tveit (a.k.a. Danny Zuko himself). "Our costume designer, William Ivey Long, is kind of the G.O.A.T. of costume designers."

Clarifies director Thomas Kail, "That's greatest of all time." Duh.

Adds Fisher, "People will dress up as greasers for all of Halloween for the rest of time. Kids are dressing up as Sandy and Danny still!"

William Ivey Long tells E! News that the jackets had to fit just right on each actor because "they have to move in them too." The couldn't be stiff, vintage jackets because "they have to dance and do everything in them." Each leather jacket was customized especially for each actor, and he added the T-Birds logo himself. "I've hand painted [each jacket], but I started with a stencil."

Grease: Live airs Sunday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. on Fox.
