The hope is still there.

Hugh Jackman has been one of the top fan favorites to play James Bond and he continues to say he's interested in playing the iconic British spy.

While the Aussie actor says he hasn't been approached recently about the role, he told E! News while prompting Pan (in theaters Oct. 9) that he's open to it now. "I'd certainly give it a thought," Jackman said. "I don't think there's an actor on the planet who wouldn't at least say, 'Oh, let me have a think about that.'"

Jackman has said in the past that he was once offered the job, but he decided against it because he was getting ready to film X-Men 2.

Spectre (in theaters Nov. 6) is Daniel Craig's final Bond film.

Idris Elba has also reportedly been courted by Bond producers, but the actor told The Hollywood Reporter in April that it was a rumor that got out of hand after Craig suggested in an interview that he take over the franchise.

Current Bond author Anthony Horowitz caused an outcry about a month ago when he proclaimed that Elba could never play Mr. Bond because he was far "too street." After Horowitz quickly apologized, Elba posted on Instagram, "Keep Smiling!! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the Street!!"
