After incurring life-threatening injuries while attempting a risky dirt bike stunt last Thursday, MTV host and BMX star T.J. Lavin is said to be showing some signs of improvement.

ESPN delivered the promising news Sunday morning, after reportedly obtaining recent text messages from Lavin's mother Barbara to Dew Tour dirt course builder, and close friend of the victim, Tim "Fuzzy" Hall, which detail the 33-year-old's progress:

"Neuro came and spoke to T.J." Barbara wrote in the message. "He moved his hands around and he gave the docs a thumbs up. He is not conscious. He's back on sedation to rest and minimize brain swelling."

Lavin, who has hosted MTV's Real World Road Rules Challenge for the past 10 seasons, was competing in the Dew Tour Championships Thursday night in Las Vegas when he attempted to perform a dangerous "nac nac" combination jump and lost control of his bike. The X Games champ was thrown to the ground head-first, and consequently knocked unconscious.

Lavin sustained broken ribs and a shattered right wrist in the crash, and is currently in a medically induced coma in order to relieve swelling on his brain.

We hope further updates on Lavin's ongoing recovery continue to stay positive.
