After lots of negotiations and what seemed like hopeless situations for Damages, DirecTV has just saved the Glenn Close drama fromthe TV land scrap heap.

Can we get a "hallelujah!"

And we're not the only ones psyched about the last-minute reprieve.

"We're excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television as we breathe new life into this outstanding drama," says Patty Ishimoto, vice president of entertainment for DirecTV. "It's a win for our customers."

"Damages is simply one of the best shows on television, and we're grateful to DirecTV for the opportunity to produce more episodes of this groundbreaking show," adds Jamie Erlicht, president of programming and production for show producer Sony Pictures Television.

FX had been on the verge of canceling the show after three seasons. That's when the satellite provider rode to the rescue. And considering how well DirecTV has treated Friday Night Lights after its near-extinction (how about all those Emmy noms!), we're certain the cast and crew of Damages is breathing a sigh of relief.

Of course the team behind the legal drama is no stranger to the Emmys. Close has won for Lead Actress in a Drama for the past two years, and is nominated again this year, among five overall for the show's cast. Which makes us question why on earth Damages was in trouble to begin with. Ratings? What are ray-teengs?

DirecTV has ordered two seasons of 10 episodes each, with the first season of Damages reairing next summer, and the new episodes starting in the summer of 2012.

Unfortunately, those new episodes of Damages will not repeat on FX later in the year, à la Friday Night Lights on NBC.

But we'll take what we can get.

Excited to see Damages make like a phoenix? What should DirecTV save next? Let loose in the comments below!
