It had such potential, but potential does not success make, and so ABC has canceled Ugly Betty after four seasons. The network has also cut back this season's episode order from 22 hours to 20.

ABC boss Steve McPherson and Betty show runner Silvio Horta released a joint statement explaining the call: "We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."

So how are the castmembers reacting to this announcement? Here's the latest from the stars of the show, including America Ferrera herself, Eric Mabius, Mark Indelicato and our good friend Ana Ortiz:

  • America Ferrera says, "I'm grateful for the beautiful memories and the four years of a wonderful working family. I'm sad to leave my cast and crew and of course Betty herself. But I am confident that this show will live on and be remembered as the unique and beautiful tale that it is."
  • The lovely and talented Ortiz, who plays Betty's older sister Hilda, tells us exclusively, "I'm saddened by the news but it's not unexpected. I'm really proud of this season, and I'm proud to be going out on a high note. I think the fact that we stayed on this long is because of the fan support and their love for the show. I love them for that. And I love my Ugly Betty family. I will miss them dearly."
  • Original castmember Mark Indelicato released a statement about the cancellation, saying, "It has been an amazing four years. I've learned so much from the wonderful actors I have worked with, it's sad to see this come so unexpectedly, but I think that we all recognize the tremendous work that we have done, and am very grateful for that."
  • Eric Mabius, who plays Mode heir Daniel Meade, told us, "Although I am sad that it will be the last season of Ugly Betty, I am so grateful to the fans for tuning in each week and their amazing support through the years for the show. To be able to play Daniel Meade has been an incredible experience and to work with such a talented cast, crew, producers and network has been such an honor."
  • Guest star Ralph Macchio tweeted, "All should be proud of the run & gr8 work!"
  • Former castmember Chris Gorham, who played one-time Betty love interest Henry Grubstick, simply tweeted a sad face emoticon in reaction to the news.

So what's your reaction to this news? Are you heartbroken, stoked or somewhere in between? Hit the comments!
