Toothbrush? Check. Clean underwear? Check. Funny jokes? Hey,
who forgot to pack the funny jokes? Conceived by the guys behind MTV's cult sketch-comedy group the State, this parody of
Meatballs-styled summer-camp movies has its tongue rolling around in its cheek and too much on its schedule. It's the last day at Camp Firewood, circa 1981, and the sex-crazed counselors and their crew of freaks and geeks have a lot to do--a talent show, a rafting trip, some shacking up, a gay wedding and diverting the falling piece of Skylab that's headed toward them.
Supported by a hip and talented troop (including
Janeane Garofalo,
Molly Shannon and David Hyde Pierce), the gags may have worked as a dozen or so separate skits, but they're sloppily hurled at you with ADD rapidity, and only about one in five stick. Worse yet, even fewer are worth remembering. Stay home and clean out the garage instead.
