Tom Cruise may be in talks to star in the much-buzzed about Top Gun sequel, but don't look for it to happen anytime soon.

The flick's original producer Jerry Bruckheimer tells me that this isn't the first time there's been talk of a a followup to the 1986 blockbuster…

"You know, it's a long ways away," Bruckheimer said at last week's BAFTA L.A.'s Britannia Awards. "We've been talking about it since the movie came out and it was a big hit.

"Tom Cruise took a run at it many years ago and we just couldn't crack it. So we'll see what happens now."

Meanwhile, Bruckheimer said a pregnant Penélope Cruz didn't have any big effect on the making of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. "We just had a great double for the long shots and she's still gorgeous in the close-ups," he said.

Also at BAFTA was Stephen Fry, who jetted to the States from London to emcee the awards show. He turned around the following day to continue work on the Sherlock Holmes sequel. We suggested a third flick be done in 3D. "Oh, golly. That's a thought," Fry said. "Oh, heavens. I suppose it's inevitable, isn't it."
