Just because original Melrose Place star Laura Leighton appears on the revived prime-time soap doesn't mean her real-life husband, Doug Savant, is planning on doing the same.

Savant tells us he's turned down producers' offers for him to revisit his starmaking role of the openly gay Matt Fielding.

"The wonderful people at Melrose inquired about if I might come over and do something for the show, but I'm gratefully, gainfully employed," the 45-year-old actor told us at this weekend's StandUp for Kids/Los Angeles benefit at G2 Gallery in Venice, Calif. "I'm so busy with Desperate Housewives [that] I'm just unavailable."

Not even for a small cameo? "Here's the deal—here's the truth: They need to get us old-timers back for a real old-school Melrose Place reunion," Savant said. "I'd come for that."

That doesn't mean he's not a fan of the new Melrose. "I really like it," Savant said. "I like Michael Rady. I think Katie Cassidy is fantastic."

And then he added with a smile, "Of course there's the untouchable Laura Leighton, who is the best."
