Happy tortured crime-solving days are here again!

Show-making star Vincent D'Onofrio is returning for the 10th and possibly final season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Eight new episodes will premiere next year on USA.

"Only time will tell if this is a fond farewell or a renaissance for Detective Robert Goren but everyone both here and in New York is ecstatic about going back to work on a show that's a passion for all of us," L&O mastermind Dick Wolf said in a statement. His latest creation, Law & Order: Los Angeles, premieres Sept. 29 on NBC.

There's no word yet on how D'Onofrio's Goren will be brought back into the Major Case fold after being unceremoniously booted following his zealous investigation into the death of his boss in the first two episodes of last season, or whether Saffron Burrows is staying on to be his partner.

Jeff Goldblum, thrown by the show's uncertain future, left after two seasons on the beat, clearing the way for D'Onofrio's equally scene-stealing presence.
