In just one month, Alexa Ray Joel has taken a turn for the upbeat. In fact, she's inspired by her recent psychological trauma.

The daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, who was briefly hospitalized in early December following a supposed suicide attempt, has cheerfully addressed her recent drama and her projects for the future in her Facebook blog.

"I just wanted to thank you all for the incredible outpouring of love and support," she writes. "It's certainly been a whirlwind of a month, but reading all of your encouraging posts has never failed to cheer me up!!!"

As for what caused the songbird's downward spiral, Alexa, who turned 24 on Dec. 29, is referring to it as "Heartbreak-Related Depression" and she plans to do some work relating to the affliction.

"I have many exciting new developments for the New Year…most importantly, to help young girls with something I feel I know a GREAT deal about: Heartbreak-Related Depression. Although it does not get much attention in our society, it is a very serious and painful condition that often gets 'swept under the carpet.' I hope to bring this topic more to light."

Alexa's big resolutions don't stop there.

"I'm even going back to school for Psychology in hopes to learn more about this and many other afflictions that many of us have had to face. After all, there's nothing more fascinating than the human mind and its respective conditions."

She concludes by offering fans "lots of love BACK" and thanking her mother "and all of her friends for the lovely 'Birthday Tribute.' "
