There were plenty of stars in attendance at last night's Coldplay concert in Los Angeles. But it was the one star who wasn't there who earned a touching tribute from the band.

Not long into their three-song encore, frontman Chris Martin paid tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, surprising the audience by launching into a much softer, slower and haunting version of her hit "Rehab."

Martin sang only the chorus of the song during the set, so the tribute didn't last long, but even more fittingly, the band launched into their own mid-naughties hit "Fix You" straight after.

The band has been paying similar tribute to Amy in their shows since her death two weeks ago, and shortly after an Australian gig last week, released the following statement on their site:

"There's little that can be said about Amy Winehouse's passing that hasn't already been said. It's just such a sad waste. We'll leave aside the awful irony and just let the Aussie choir sing."

Or, in this case, the American one. Last night's concert, attended by Kate Bosworth, Lindsay Lohan and more, was held to benefit the Grammy Foundation's Grammy in the Schools charity.
