Attention, all schadenfreude lovers! Do we have a doozy for you.

Earlier this week, former (we repeat, former) couple and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island costars Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Hutcherson sat down with an Australian morning show while making their usual promotional rounds.

And while their line of questioning consisted of the usual boilerplate topics, there was one particular query that led to an awkward silence that all future awkward silences will forever be judged against.

But hey, that's what happens when you ask two exes how their relationship's going.

The awkward mark comes just over three minutes into the interview, when the Sydney anchor causally asked Vanessa and Josh, "How long have you two been going out?"

Cue a pause that lasts a lifetime and a confused exchange of looks.

"We're not," Hutcherson said, finally breaking the tension, as Hudgens shook her head. "We were at one point, but she broke my heart…no, I'm just kidding," he trailed off, to nervous laughter from Vanessa and the anchors.

So much for doing your research. In fact, Hudgens has spent the better part of the last few months on a PDA tour with her current beau Austin Butler.

"That was a while ago, no, we're just really good friends now," Hutcherson continued on as Hudgens gave him a playful smack in the face.

The anchor, realizing his awkward mistake, dissolved into giggles and a red face of his own, but did eventually manage to squeak out an apology to the duo.

"Sorry, I think someone in the studio here stitched me up with some incorrect information," he said.

"That was a bit awkward," his cohost helpfully interjected.

"Yeah a little bit awkward," he said.

To everyone, apparently, but Hutcherson, who gamely carried on. "Good on them," he said. "That was funny."

What a pro.
