The Critics' Choice Awards are coming!
As we get into the full swing of award season, the next ceremony on the schedule is the 23rd annual Critics' Choice Awards. The show will unfold just hours from now as the stars gather at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica to take part in the event and perhaps take home a starry statue.
Actors and actresses from across the industry will be recognized as nominees tonight, including legends like The Post's Meryl Streep and Phantom Thread's Daniel Day-Lewis and breakout stars like Girls Trip's Tiffany Haddish and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's Rachel Brosnahan.
So, as the clock counts down to tonight's main event, here's a cheat sheet of the five major things to know:
1. Olivia Munn is your host.
The actress will be running the show this year. "We are absolutely thrilled to have Olivia hosting this year's ceremony, and know that she will deliver an entertaining and sharp-witted evening to everyone in the room, and the viewers at home," Broadcast Film Critics Association President Joey Berlin previously said in a statement. "Beyond her skills as an actress, Olivia's work as an activist within the industry gives her a powerful voice, making her the perfect candidate to lead this night honoring the best and brightest in film and television."
2. The show will definitely take shape.
With 14 nominations, Guillermo del Toro's dark fantasy drama The Shape of Water leads the film nominees this year. Over on the television side, Ryan Murphy's anthology Feud: Bette & Joan is going into the show with six nods.
3. There will be one wonderful honoree.
Hollywood's very own Wonder Woman Gal Gadot will be presented with the second annual #SeeHer Award by none other than her acclaimed director Patty Jenkins. The honor is meant to celebrate women who "push boundaries" and "recognize the importance of accurately portraying women across the entertainment landscape," a spokesperson previously said.
"Gadot broke through this year as a powerful voice advocating for women, not only on screen as the iconic Wonder Woman, but in life as well, using her platform to encourage those in the entertainment industry and beyond to strive for fairness and parity across genders."
4. The youngsters will get recognized.
Every year, a crop of young stars are celebrated in the "Best Young Actor/Actress" category. Among this year's contenders are Gifted's Mckenna Grace, The Florida Project's Brooklynn Price and former winner, Wonder star Jacob Tremblay.
5. Here's how you can tune in.
If you want to watch the stars claim their statues, The CW will broadcast the ceremony live tonight at 5 p.m. PST.
