Aaron Carter's party hasn't always been a true celebration.
While fans may know the singer for his hit songs in the late ‘90s and early 2000's, others may know the former child star for his personal struggles away from any stage.
In a rare television interview from Oprah: Where Are They Now, the 28-year-old decided to look back at his ups and downs in the public spotlight. And no, he was not holding much back.
The "I Want Candy" singer recalled the exact day his parents announced they were getting a divorce. As it turned out, the announcement was made just one hour before he was set to shoot his episode of MTV's Cribs.
"It was 2004 or 2003, a lot of money was coming in, we had the biggest estate in all of the Florida Keys," he shared on Saturday's episode. "I had to show all the cameras my life that I was losing and nobody ever knew it."
The divorce proved to be more than just a dramatic twist for a reality show. Instead, it caused Aaron to make some bad decisions he regrets today.
"The depression was brought on because I loved my family being together. I did not want to see them divorced," he explained. "I couldn't dwell on it. I couldn't think about it too much. I kind of had to block it out. I started partying and getting into a lot of trouble."
He added, "With everything that was happening, I started losing all my money. I went broke."
In between staying at Nick Carter's house and a stint on Dancing With the Stars, Aaron wasn't able to get back on the music scene the way he was hoping to.
"They were not interested in me. They had no interest in me," he proclaimed. "They didn't want to touch me. They didn't want to do anything." He would later check himself into a rehab center.
During the episode, Aaron also spoke out about Leslie Carter's untimely death back in 2012. To this day, the singer still has some "what if's" in regards to his sister's passing.
"I wasn't making that much money. Fortunately, I just hit my bonus—$10,000 the week before Leslie died—and I actually reached out to her two weeks before that and I said I'm going to get you the money to go to rehab," he shared. "She wanted it and her phone got cut off."
He added, "I think out of all the experiences and all the things that happened with my sister's passing, I just learned that life means so much to me and more than just money and fame."
