FoxHow did Fox get that grease lightning going for Grease: Live? It was no simple feat. In a behind-the-scenes video, associate director Carrie Havel shared what it was like behind the scenes of Fox's Grease: Live and let's preface it by saying they weren't sitting there doing the hand jive, however, it was a very musical control room.
"A lot of people have asked what it means to be the Associate Director on a show like Grease: Live. Here's a peek behind the curtain. Every shot in the show was designed and scripted by our director Alex Rudzinski," Havel posted on Facebook along with the video below. "My job was to execute that plan. You hear me calling shot numbers and camera moves carefully coordinated with the music. My head stays in the script and Alex, to my right, keeps an eye on cameras to adjust framing and pacing."
It's mesmerizing.

The live Fox special starring Aaron Tveit, Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens, Carly Rae Jepsen, Carlos PenaVega, Keke Palmer, Kether Donohue, Jordan Fisher, David Del Rio and Andrew Call was met with rave reviews and a huge audience. Grease: Live outperformed NBC's last two live musicals, The Wiz and Peter Pan, with 12.2 million viewers and a staggering 4.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
Hudgens earned even more praise for going out and performing the day after she found out her father had died. The broadcast was dedicated to her father, Greg, after he passed away following a cancer battle.
"I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer. Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers," she tweeted. "Tonight, I do the show in his honor."
