The Coolest Awards Seasons BFFs, From Mama's Boys to Girl Squads

Because free booze fuels all sorts of friendships.

Maybe it's the free (and free-flowing) booze, maybe it's standing ovations and single tears shed, or maybe it's the prospect of finally being able to eat an entire pizza without fear of popping a seam in your borrowed designer gown-slash-suit. Either way, there's a certain feeling in the air during awards season.

It's a feeling that encourages love and tenderness, if you will, and seems to fuel a very special kind of friendship: The Awards Season BFF.

Each years as the Oscars near and celebs from all parts of the world gather together at all sorts of galas and presentations, they seem to couple off in awesome—if occasionally fleeting—pairs. They walk the red carpet together, they keep each other's champagne glasses full to the very brim, and they hold each other's awards statues while they fail horribly on the dance floor. We've come to look forward to watching these friendships blossom on live television, and in fact it's a tradition as old as cringing whenever John Travolta walks onto the stage.

Since this weekend marks the Screen Actors Guild Awards (a.k.a. the last major show before The Big One), we've decided to take a moment to honor these awards season BFFs. Some of them have been walking the carpet together for decades, and some of them won't ever run into each other again, but we love each pair more than the last.

Jennifer Lawrence & David O. Russell

These two! Be still our hearts! Their awards season friendship is kind of inevitable given they're constantly nominated for their projects together, so it only makes sense that they're constantly by each other's side. And how cute! Lawrence said at this year's Golden Globes that she wants to be buried to her perpetual collaborator, and if that happens we want to be buried right next to that grave. They're a slightly unconventional twosome, what with the fact that David is kind of Jen's boss and also that 30-year age difference, but whatever helps them to make Silver Linings Playbook 2. Can we get an amen?

Okay, okay, so they're married and thus legally bound to be best friends. But they're totally some of the cutest attendees at every awards show. It probably has something to do with the fact that at every turn Eddie looks like he's seeing the ocean for the first time. This couple is super private, so we relish any and all opportunities to gawk at their love, especially if it's while one-half of them is winning an Oscar.

Bradley Cooper & His Mom

To be fair, she has a name: It's Gloria Campano. Although she probably answers to "Bradley Cooper's mom," too. Ol' B. Coops is kind of unlucky in love, so he often calls on Glo to accompany him at his many red carpet functions. (Either that or she just forces his hand). No offense to Bradley and his marriage prospects, but keep the mom-dates coming! Gloria doesn't say much during their awards show appearances, but we can just tell she's the kind of spitfire mom who never hesitates to give Bradley a piece of her mind. In fact, we'd pay her to put us in line.

Meryl Streep & Her Trophies

If Meryl's at an awards show, it's because she's winning all the trophies. Meryl and her award statuettes are as close as peanut butter and jelly. Or Ricky Gervais and Mel Gibson

Once secretive lovers while one-half of you is married to the other sex, always secretive lovers, amirite? In our dreams, these two have a standing Sunday night date in which they gather in one of their Brooklyn townhomes, listening to NPR and drinking fair trade coffee, discussing the injustices of the world.

Lupita Nyong'o & Jared Leto

Just look at that chemistry! The world may never know if these two were an item, but we'll always have our fantasies. Here's hoping he stares into her soul at least once this season.

Jennifer Aniston &...Everybody

You get a Jennifer Aniston friendship! You get a Jennifer Aniston friendship! Everybody gets a Jennifer Aniston friendship! Well, not everybody. But if you're thin, blonde at least half the time, and look half your age, there's a good chance that you've shared a moment with Jen that you'll now treasure forever. Bonus points if she grabbed your a--.

Scarlett Johansson & John Travolta

The world let out a collective horrified shriek when this moment went down at last year's Oscars, but ScarJo later admitted to being totally on board. So we guess that means they're...friends? Whatever you guys are into, man.

Jamie & Corinne Foxx

After the minor ick-fest that was the last set of BFFs, we had to go for something heartwarming. Jamie and Corinne are perhaps the most perennial father-daughter duo at awards shows, so much so that they even gave her the honor of acting as Miss Golden Globe. We mean, she was there anyway, right?

Emma Thompson & Alcohol

NEVER come between a woman and her free champagne. Especially when that woman is Hollywood's favorite boozehound Emma Thompson.
