It's hard to believe it's been 22 years since Leonardo DiCaprio made his debut at the Golden Globes when he was only 19! That year, he earned his first-ever nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
Leo has obviously grown up a lot since his fresh-faced, teenage days, but some things haven't changed at all: He still continues to deliver outstanding performances! The handsome actor has received 11 Golden Globes nominations in his illustrious career, including tonight's Best Actor nod for The Revenant. He has also already won twice for The Aviator in 2005 and The Wolf of Wall Street in 2014.
During today's Live From the Red Carpet at the 2016 Golden Globes, we take a trip down memory lane and reminisce with more freshman appearances at the awards show. Stars like Cate Blanchett and Matt Damon may be seasoned vets in the game now, but they all started out as hopeful rookies. Take a look!
Cate Blanchett
Not much has changed since the acclaimed actress first stepped onto the Golden Globes red carpet in 1999 when she was 29—she is just as stunning now and seemingly hasn't aged a bit! It was an enchanted night for the timeless beauty who took home her first Golden Globe award for Elizabeth. It was also her first-ever nomination. Over the years, Cate has been nominated for eight more Golden Globes, snagging a Best Supporting Actress trophy for I'm Not There in 2008 and a Best Actress award for Blue Jasmine in 2014. This year, she is in the race to win the Best Actress honor once again for her work in Carol.
Kate Hudson
The blonde beauty had a lot to smile about in 2001 when she made her entrance at the Golden Globe Awards at the age of 21. Similar to fellow vet Cate Blanchett, she was a first-time nominee and a first-time winner for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Penny Lane in Almost Famous! While that remains Kate's only nod to date, she has attended the ceremony a handful times since then and looked amazing each and every time. If you remember, she owned the red carpet last year in a white-hot Versace dress. We can't wait to see what she will wow us with tonight!
Matt Damon
The hunky star may be an A-lister now, but back in 1998, he was just a 27-year-old newcomer with piercing baby blues that could basically melt your heart! Matt earned his first two Golden Globe nominations for Good Will Hunting, which he wrote with best buddy Ben Affleck and also starred in. Although he didn't take home the Best Actor statue, he received a nice consolation prize when he and Ben won the Best Screenplay award. The 45-year-old actor has received five other nominations for his performances over the years, but has yet to repeat history. Let's see if he can do it tonight for The Martian!
Olivia Wilde
The actress made her spectacular debut at the Golden Globe Awards in 2009 in a delicious and breathtakingly beautiful Reem Acra gown that looked like cotton candy (in the best way possible). At the time, the then-24-year-old's medical show House M.D. was nominated for Best Television Drama Series. The show didn't win, but Olivia definitely made a lasting impression. The hot mama has attended several times since then as a presenter. During her last trip to the Globes in 2014, she memorably flaunted her baby bump on the red carpet in an emerald-green Gucci dress.
Rob Lowe
The attractive actor was barely legal when he attended the Golden Globes for the first time in 1984. At the tender age of 19, Rob nabbed a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in the made-for-TV movie, Thursday's Child. He didn't take home the award, but the Golden Globes have shown him lots of love since then with five more nods, including this year's Best Actor in a Television Series nomination for The Grinder.
