Katie Holmes' New Movie Touched With Fire, Which Sees Her Playing a Mental Patient, Gets First Trailer

Katie Holmes' takes on a daunting role in her latest movie, the indie film Touched With Fire, whose first trailer was released this week.

The 36-year-old Dawson's Creek and Batman Begins actress plays Carla, who struggles with bipolar disorder and checks herself into a psychiatric hospital. She begins a romance with a patient named Marco who suffers from the same mental illness. He is played by 37-year-old Canadian actor Luke Kirby, recently seen on the short-lived ABC series The Astronaut Wives Club.

"Is it true that neither of you thinks you're from this planet?" a doctors asks Carla and Marco, letter telling him, "You're not healthy for one another."

Holmes' character is seen going on romantic outings and getting intimate with her new boyfriend. She also runs into problems at the hospital—in one scene, doctors hold her down on a bed as she struggles.

Spike Lee serves as the executive producer of Touched With Fire. First-time movie director Paul Dalio helmed the film and also penned its script. The film is set for release on Feb. 12, 2016.
