It's a rough Monday for Cosmopolitan today.

The magazine celebrated its 50th birthday over the weekend and marked the occasion last night by releasing the much-buzzed-about all-Kardashian November cover. Except the big reveal didn't go exactly as planned.

The cover, which features sisters KimKhloe and Kourtney KardashianKendall and Kylie Jenner and mom Kris Jenner all klad (sorry, it's inevitable) in Risky Business-esque white shirts. It's also the first time all six women have been photographed together in over four years. The accompanying article, which will be released in its entirety when the print edition hits newsstands on October 13, will delve into just what has made the family so successful and promises all sorts of new stories from the sisters and glowing praise from their friends and business partners.

But there's one problem: The cover deems them "America's First Family" in big, bold letters. That's right, Cosmo just compared the Kardashians to the Obamas.

Now regardless of one's opinion of the Kardashians/Jenners and their legitimacy as public figures, it's pretty easy to see why this particular editorial choice may not have been the wisest. Comparing any non-political family to the Obamas is a bit incendiary, and it's no secret that building a reality show empire isn't exactly akin to running the world's biggest political power.

The magazine is clearly going for shock value with the cover line, and while it's certainly turning heads, the attention is coming for all the wrong reasons. The public is taking aim at Cosmo for the headline and let's just say the pitchforks are poised and ready. The majority of readers are simply angry over their belief that the comparison does a major disservice to the Obamas—they want POTUS and his family members to get the respect they deserve. A quick sampling of the (many, many) responses is below.

E! has reached out to Cosmopolitan on the matter, but as of publishing they have yet to comment.

Now without putting words in the mouths of Cosmopolitan's editorial team, it's a safe bet that they didn't actually mean any disrespect towards the Obama family but were simply looking for a buzz-worthy way to comment on the Kardashian's impressive stranglehold on the pop culture news cycle. The family is often described as the closest thing America has to a royal family (again, to the chagrin of a fair share of citizens), and it's likely this was just another, alliteration-friendly, way to say that. After all, the First Family phrase appears on the cover underneath the headline "Easiest Workout for an Epic Ass!" so a grain of salt should be taken here.

But alas, this is the Internet, and haters are always gonna hate.

New episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians air Sunday night at 8 p.m. only on E!
