Singer Eddie Montgomery of the country duo Montgomery Gentry shared some devastating news on Sunday.

Montgomery's 19-year-old son Hunter has tragically passed away after an accident left him on life support in a Kentucky hospital.

"My son Hunter went to heaven today," Eddie Montgomery said in a statement. "I appreciate all your prayers and love and thank you for giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye."

No further details on the nature of the fatal accident were given.

Hunter was the youngest of Montgomery's four kids with his ex-wife Tracy. He got engaged to his girlfriend in August during one of his dad's concert.

The funeral arrangements for Hunter are pending, according to the press release.

50-year-old Montgomery, who enjoyed commercial and critical success with Montgomery Gentry, has been battling both professional and personal issues over the last couple of years. In 2010, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer right around the time he split with Tracy, his wife of 22 years. He was declared cancer free in 2011.

In April 2014, he married longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Belcher, 41. Montgomery Gentry released their album Folks Like Us this past June.

Our thoughts are with the entire family during this difficult time.
