Tyra Banks made waves last month when she penned a lengthy Instagram post about the pressure models feel today, noting that they must be "skinnier than skinny."
E! News caught up with the 41-year-old television personality in Los Angeles on Tuesday at the red carpet for the America's Next Top Model Cycle 22 premiere, sponsored by Nylon, where she clarified her comments and explained why it's significantly harder to be a model now than it was 15 years ago.
But perhaps the most surprising revelation? She doesn't know who Behati Prinsloo is!
"I don't know Behati's body type, but she sounds Indian and gorgeous..." the former talk show host admitted to E! News before weighing in on her "slimmer than slim" remarks.
"It's so interesting I did this whole thing about modeling in general and how hard it is for models these days. And everybody picked up two little lines, 'They're too thin!' I guess that's like the headline thing, but the thing for me that was way bigger than that is that these girls have to be famous all the time," she explained. "When I went to a fashion show, I could look like crap. I could have on mom jeans, a washed face and some Timberlands and it was no problem."
However, for top models today such as Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn, Banks says that rule no longer applies.
"These gals gotta walk in and look like they're about to do the fashion show," the retired model explained. "They have to post pictures of themselves constantly on social media. They have to make sure they have a lot of likes because if they don't have a lot of likes they're not going to get booked for the job even though they're the best model. So, body type is a part of that, but body type, we've been talking about that forever and everybody knows that."
She added: "But to me it's all about, ‘Damn, there's no such thing as off.' Like, if I was a model today, I couldn't just got home and wash my face. I'd have to go home and wash my face, add five filters to it and say I've washed my face, I'm natural."
Banks also addressed the reports that claim she's feuding with model Chrissy Teigen on the set of her new show The F.A.B. Life and admitted she doesn't "beef with people I hire."
