Walter McBride/WireImageSometimes when you attend a play you feel so immersed in the story it's as if the stage shares the same reality as its audience's.
Apparently, one theatergoer's disbelief was suspended so much during Broadway's Hand to God last week, that when his phone got low on battery he decided to waltz up to the stage and plug it into the prop socket!
Boy, that must of been one convincing production.
Fellow audience member Chris York posted on Facebook, "the crew had to stop the pre-show music, remove the cellphone, and make an announcement as to why you can't do that."
The play's stars Sarah Stiles and Marc Kudisch tweeted about the shocking incident.
Stiles tweeted, "A guy jumped on the stage and plugged his phone into the fake outlet on our set just before we started. @HandtoGodBway#fullmoon or #idiot ?"
Kudisch tweeted, "Dear general audience, an electrical socket that's a part of the set of the play is NOT for you to charge your iPhone.....just an FYI....."
Hand to God is about a demonic sock puppet—a bizarre concept, but it still falls short of the most bizarre thing that happened that evening.
