Stephen Colbert has been ensuring that he isn't rusty when he assumes the Late Show throne in September.

But who knew that he would pop up in Monroe, Mich., on public access cable television to interview a "local Michigander"? Certainly not the folks who usually tune into local talk show Only in Monroe!

None other than Detroit's favorite son Eminem sat down with Colbert today for an interview that could easily have been mistaken for a Between Two Ferns-style spoof (and not only because of that potted plant adding such a domestic, homespun touch to the set).

But no, this was about as real as such a tongue-in-cheek interview could get, and we can only imagine the surge in viewership that Only in Monroe will enjoy.

(And thanks to this Reddit user who blew the lid off this covert op.)

Eminem lived to tell the tale, too, sharing this "I was there" image on Facebook.

"Thanks for having me," the rapper, who was introduced only by his real name, Marshal Mathers, shook hands with his host as if there was nothing out of the ordinary about this sit-down.

They proceeded to talk about traffic, flooding ("the important thing is, just don't drink any sewage," Colbert advised) and... Bob Seger?

"Bob Seger's great, yeah," Eminem agreed when Colbert missed the mark on all of the Grammy winner's musical influences.

"Are you political, because a lot of rap is really political and a lot of it is just good booty rhymes," Colbert wondered. "Are you more political or more booty rhymes?"

"In the middle?" Eminem wondered right back. "Right in the crack, probably."
