Watch: What Attracted David Duchovny to New Series "Aquarius"

After nine seasons, two movies and now an event series in the works, it's pretty much ingrained in The X-Files star David Duchovny to not reveal, well, pretty much anything. But, when he sat down with E! News he did reveal some things…just not the spoilers you're craving.

Duchovny currently stars in NBC's Aquarius, a period drama about a 1960s cop on the hunt for Charles Manson, and it was the time period that drew him to the project. "I just liked the idea that was pitched to me by John McNamara, the creator of the show, of really it being a window into the ‘60s," he told Carrisa Loethen. "Of using the Manson murders, which don't happen in the entire year that we're doing the show, but using Manson as kind of like the end of the ‘60s, the end of the hippie dream."

Duchovny is going from busting perps with shaggy hair in the 1960s-set Aquarius to exploring "the truth" with Gillian Anderson in the revived The X-Files. Fox will unleash six episodes of the beloved series this winter with Anderson and Duchovny back as Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, respectively. The duo started shooting on the streets of Vancouver with creator Chris Carter at the helm and new cast member Joel McHale in the scenes. Naturally, fans went wild. Fans have been going wild on social media since before the revival was announced and that hasn't gone unnoticed by the Emmy nominated actor.

"I think that it has a very vocal online…following. I think they've been waiting a long time and they're probably the main reason we get to do this show," he said.

And sorry, Tumblr fans. That isn't David Duchovny answering your questions. "What's a Tumblr?" he asked. Click play on the video above for more from Duchovny.

Aquarius airs Thursdays, 9 p.m. on NBC.

(E! and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
