Rumor has it Daniel Craig will no longer be our man of mystery but that Homeland star Damian Lewis might just be our next James Bond.

"Bets have been placed on him succeeding Daniel Craig," a spokesperson from British bookmaker William Hill told The Telegraph. "This is an unprecedented gamble, as for no apparent reason we have seen bets of up to £200 on Damian Lewis being named as the next Bond. This might well be significant."

A spokesman from Betfair agrees, "Damian Lewis hadn't seen any interest in the betting until this weekend, but an absolute landslide in bets has forced us to cut the odds."

Betfair adds that another front-runner is Luther star Idris Elba: "Idris Elba looked like a foregone conclusion, but Damian Lewis has now thrown a huge spanner in the works."

Lewis may already have what it takes for agent life. He joked with The Telegraph back in 2013 that Skyfall paved the way for a redheaded Bond. "I can't believe they worked that in especially for me," the actor laughed.

Other contenders include X-Men stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender and Max Max actor Tom Hardy.

We'd be happy with any of these hunky men saving our world!
