Watch: Will Ernie Hudson Join New "Ghostbusters" Cast?

Ernie Hudson is really hoping his phone rings soon with an offer to appear in the new Ghostbusters movie.

"I have not been officially asked to do anything so if I am, I'd love to be a part of it," Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the original franchise, told me last night at the premiere of Netflix's new series Grace and Frankie.

"I think I should be the old guy who's been around a long time," he said, adding, "I want be the guy who maybe trains the people."

The people he's referring to are Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong and Leslie Jones, the stars of director Paul Feig's remake.

"I'm excited," Hudson said. "There's been a lot of stuff in the press that says I wasn't, but I am. I'm very proud to have been a part of that franchise and I'm glad they're moving forward with something because it's been 25 years…I just want it to be funny."

The new flick is set to hit theaters in July 2016.

"I'm pretty excited," McCarthy told me SXSW last month. "Kristen and I got together recently and I was like, 'This is going to be so much fun.'"

At the same time, Feig said "one of the biggest questions we're faced with" was how to use the iconic Ghostbusters theme song.
