Hilary Duff is back in the biz—and taking the industry by storm.

So, when the former Disney darling stopped by the studio on Monday (tune into E! News tonight at 7 and 11 to watch the full sit-down), we had to ask the mother of one how it feels to return to both the small screen and the recording studio after taking a breather to raise her 3-year-old child, Luca

"This year has definitely been an exciting year for me. I guess, a few year's leading up I've been a little sleepy, being a mom and other things. But definitely have a lot going on with a new TV show...and all the other time I had has been working on the record, getting it to where it needs to be," she said of her forthcoming album This Heart—her first musical project in seven years, which is slated for release sometime this year.

"I obviously really missed singing and having that outlet," she continued, "So I guess this is the year."

Duff is also back on the boob tube over 10 years after the beloved series Lizzie McGuire came to an end. The former child star plays Kelsey, a twentysomething New Yorker who teams up with single mom Liza (Sutton Foster), who is posing in the workplace as a 26-year-old woman.

"I think since I started on TV it feels really good to be back there, it feels like home and I really love that schedule," she said. "I think the reason why I took so long was just really trying to find the right project...and when I read this script it was pretty perfect."

Younger was created by Darren Star, who also created Sex and the City, and Duff is a self-professed "huge fan" of his work.
