Dr. Phil's highly anticipated sit-down with Nick Gordon aired on Wednesday, just over a month after Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of the late Whitney Houston, was found unresponsive inside a bathtub in her Georgia home.
The 22-year-old singer remains in a coma at an Atlanta hospital while partner Gordon, who has been publicly feuding with Bobbi Kristina's father Bobby Brown and was present in the home when Bobbi Kristina was found, has checked into a rehab facility following a number of suicidal tweets and an intervention by Dr. Phil McGraw.
Prior to entering treatment, Gordon, along with his mother, Michelle, opened up to Dr. Phil about his pain and suffering following Bobbi Kristina's hospitalization, appearing distraught as Gordon admitted to substance abuse and broke down over the tragedy.
"I have been drinking. I have been doing Xanax," Gordon told Dr. Phil as his mother rubbed his back on the couch. "Um and that's it. I've been so, like, sober besides that."
"You've been drinking a lot though, right?" Dr. Phil replied as Gordon appeared to hyperventilate.
"Yeah. Yeah, I have been," he confessed.
Earlier in the episode Dr. Phil explained that he had intended for the sit-down to be a straight interview, but "when we arrived, we realized this is a serious situation and if Nick didn't get help, he could end up dead," he said before cutting to a clip of Gordon appearing inconsolable.
"I miss Krissy. I do," Nick is heard saying as he cries on a hotel bed.
The moment when Nick agrees to enter rehab is also shown; he and Dr. Phil come to an agreement after the TV personality promises to fly Gordon back to Atlanta if Bobbi Kristina were to wake up and call his name.
"That's my commitment to you," Dr. Phil said before Gordon chimed in, "OK, so mine to you is I'll be sober, I'll be clean, I'll be a good person."
Earlier in the episode, the former psychologist sat down with Gordon's mother, who claimed that her son administered CPR to Whitney Houston back in 2012 when the singing legend was found unresponsive in a bathtub before she was later pronounced dead at the age of 48.
"At that point, she was on the floor," Michelle said of Whitney, who, according to officials, was discovered in the bathtub by her assistant. "He administered CPR to her. He called me when he was standing in front of body."
Asked what Nick told his mother on the telephone, she replied, "He just couldn't understand why he couldn't revive her. He just said, 'Mommy, why? Why couldn't I do CPR on her? I couldn't get the air in her lungs.'"
At the end of the episode, Dr. Phil reveals that the Houston family reached out after the interview to shoot down Nick's mother's claims that her son performed CPR on Whitney.
"Nick Gordon did not perform CPR on Whitney Houston and the police report reflects that," said the Houston family rep.
"We continue to request privacy in regards to my daughter's medical condition," Bobby Brown told E! News last week in a statement. "We thank everyone that supports Bobbi Kristina and God is hearing our prayers."
