Amal Clooney will teach a course on human rights at the NYC-based graduate school this spring, E! News confirms. The British barrister, who specializes in international law and human rights, will serve as a senior fellow with the school's Human Rights Institute and will speak about human rights litigation strategies to students.
"It is an honor to be invited as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School alongside such a distinguished faculty and talented student pool," the 37-year-old wife of George Clooney said in a statement. "I look forward to getting to know the next generation of human rights advocates studying here."
The announcement of Amal's position as a visiting professor comes on the heels of the news that George and Amal, who wed in September 2014, have temporarily moved to NYC while the actor film's his latest movie, Money Monster.
And apparently, the newlyweds couldn't bear to be apart as Amal, whose practice is based in London, quickly snagged a job in the Big Apple.
"We are privileged to have an international human rights practitioner of Amal Clooney's stature join our faculty," Professor Sarah H. Cleveland, the Louis Henkin professor of human and constitutional rights and faculty co-director of the Human Rights Institute, said. "Her extensive experience advocating before UN and regional human rights mechanisms complements our existing offerings and will enrich the experience of our students."
Clooney is more than qualified for her latest teaching gig with an impressive roster of clients including Kofi Annan, Julian Assange and Yulia Tymoshenko.
Meanwhile, Mr. Clooney recently attended the SeriousFun Children's Network's event—honoring the late Paul Newman—in New York, where he joked after a tiny flub in his speech, "My wife's the smart one!"
