Kanye West stole the show and drew gasps and laughs at the 2015 Grammy Awards when he rushed the stage after Beck won Album of the Year for his 2014 record Morning Phase, marking a pseudo-reenactment of his infamous interruption of Taylor Swift's MTV VMAs acceptance speech. He told E! News after the Grammys that "Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé." The hip-hop star later clarified his remarks and also apologized online.
Turns out, Beck, who was born Bek David Campbell, and Beyoncé share a connection—the alternative rocker's father, David Campbell, an arranger, composer and conductor, worked on her 2006 sophomore album B'Day. The connection was pointed out by a Redditor on Wednesday. That album went triple platinum and won the Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
So if Beck bumps into Beyoncé, they now have something else to talk about.
David arranged and conducted string arrangements for Beck's 2015 Grammy-winning album, Morning Phase, which won three Grammys in total.
David also worked on records released by the likes of Swift, as well as Adele, Miley Cyrus, U2, Aaliyah, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Leonard Cohen, Tim McGraw, Diana Ross, Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, Enrique Iglesias, Josh Groban, Shakira, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Green Day, Aerosmith, Train, KISS and...Lindsay Lohan. He worked on her debut album, Speak, which contained the pop single "Rumors."
The list of hit songs he has worked on include Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" and the Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris." David has also arranged and composed music for movies such as Coyote Ugly, Friday Night Lights, Brokeback Mountain and Dreamgirls, which starred Beyoncé.
