Swearing Talkin' BarbieMattel

Daaamn, Barbie. You kiss your mother with that mouth?

A mother from Caernarfon, North Wales angrily attempted to return her seven-year-old daughter's Talkin' Barbie after she overheard the doll dropping the F-bomb.

Talina Evans, 25, claims that the toy, which is based on the Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse web series, screams out "what the f--k?!" when her speaking box is activated. Actually, if you watch a video of the Barbie in action, it sounds like she sings out "what the f--k?!"

Apparently, this Barbie is programmed to say stuff like "amaze!" and "there is no substitute for glitter." Personally, we would rather the Barbie say swear words instead of "there is no substitute for glitter," but that's just us.

Talkin' Barbie also says "off the hook," which might be the phrase that is causing the accidental swearing.

When the dolls says "off the hook," a malfunction (or maybe just poor quality of the sound box) makes it sound a bit like "what the f--k?"

"I think it's very irresponsible of the toy company," Evans told The Daily Mail. "They know that children are going to be playing with these toys. I'm not the only one who has heard it. You can hear it loud and clear, it definitely says, 'What the f--k.'"

She claims she tried to return the Barbie but couldn't because she didn't have a receipt, at which time the mom screamed out "what the f--k?!" at the cashier. No, just kidding.

A Mattel rep insists that the doll is not swearing but just dropping one of her wacky catchphrases, like "to the salon!" (Ugh).

"One of the 15 pre-recorded phrases is 'off the hook." This is a common expression used by the characters in the animated reality web series," said the spokeswoman to BBC. "While the phrase may be heard differently by some who are not familiar with the show, all of Mattel's products are created for both children and parents to enjoy and trust."

Take a listen to the Barbie in the video above and let us know if you think it's just a misheard catchphrase or if Barbie has just gone hardcore since we were children.
