Six Flags Magic Mountain's Colossus roller coaster caught fire earlier today after welders were in the midst of construction on the beloved landmark.

Flames were extinguished shortly thereafter, however, a portion of the ride subsequently collapsed as fire crew were working on putting out the blaze.

As a result, a massive hole was left in the top of the lift hill of the 36-year-old wooden coaster.

Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Scott Miller told the Los Angeles Times that there were luckily no injuries reported after the incident.

"It's not something you see every day," Miller explained of the fire.

The paper also reports that there were no park visitors riding the attraction at the time of the fire, as it's been closed since mid-August.

Just two weeks ago, Six Flags announced their plans to renovate the entirely wood structure into a hybrid with steel and name it the Twisted Colossus.

The revamped coaster was expected to open sometime next year, and there's no word yet on whether those scheduling plans remain the same at this time.

Rocky Mountain Construction is responsible for the renovations, which were going to see the upper level of the track and right spur entirely changed.

In the end, an estimated 3,000 feet of track is slated to be removed from the original Colossus in order to transform it into its future form.
