Joan Rivers' family is by her side.

The legendary comedian and host of E!'s Fashion Police was hospitalized this morning in critical condition, having suffered complications while undergoing what was characterized as a minor non-surgical procedure.

"I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother," daughter Melissa Rivers said in a statement upon arriving in New York to be with her mother. "She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers."

Melissa flew to New York this morning with her 13-year-old son, Cooper. In addition to serving as an executive producer and a frequent guest host on Fashion Police, Melissa has also starred with her mom on the WE tv series Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?.

Rivers was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan after she stopped breathing during what we've been told was a minor endoscopic procedure on her throat.

The 81-year-old entertainer and author was said to be in stable yet still critical condition.

Just last night the always vivacious Rivers had attended an event in NYC to promote her latest book, Diary of a Mad Diva

"She was so lively and sweet," a source told E! News. "She even let people take photos with her. She definitely had a lot of energy!  She was cracking jokes about everyone from Jay Leno to Jackie O. She was as sharp as she's ever been."
