To be fair, this isn't the most offensive version of Spider-Man we've seen (that scene in Spider-Man 3 where Tobey Maguire went swing dancing, anyone?) Still, we cannot comprehend how this statue of Spidey with a giant boner even got erected—har har—in the first place.

This friendly neighborhood Spider-Man probably has to introduce himself to the neighbors before he can move in next door.

The statue, which is located above the Lotte Shopping Center in Busan, was put up sometime in 2013, which means not only did someone think it was a good idea to put erect in the first place, but that it may have been displayed for over a year. It's now being taken down after the center received numerous complaints.

Oh, and it overlooked the shopping center's children's playground.

Artist Eunsuk Yoo, who had the option of simply modifying the statue but opted to remove it instead, posted on Facebook saying his "reason for it was that [he] wanted to apply the natural physical phenomenon to a superhero [to] depict what's natural in the morning without lies and superficial-ness in a comical way."

He continued (as translated by Kotaku) to say it was "sad," but that, "I understand that a piece that could be potentially interpreted as lewd can be offensive at a place like shopping mall. It's disappointing, but I'll reach out to the public with a better work next time."
