Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are total comedic BFFs, but the 22 Jump Street stars don't initially seem like the the type you'd see paired up on the big screen!

That's because, Jonah explained Thursday on Late Night With Seth Meyers, he and the Magic Mike hunk "literally look and act like we're from different planets!"

"Like he's from planet hot," said the Oscar nominee, "and I'm from planet Jew!"

Jonah also revealed that before working with Channing on 2012's 21 Jump Street, the pair had never met. "You just get lucky sometimes," he said of their instant chemistry. "You just go, oh wow, I really click with this person, or, there's something really weird and funny about how different we are."

One of the secrets to their success? They're not afraid to laugh at the absurdity of what they're doing. "With [21 Jump Street], we were really self aware about how stupid of an idea it was to turn an old TV show into a movie," Jonah explained. "So for this one [22 Jump Street], we were super aware to make fun of ourselves for making a sequel of a TV show that we turned into a movie."

"I figured out the perfect formula for filmmaking," he went on. "Do you wanna know what it is? We do it with the Jump Street movies. These movies should be so bad that the fact that they're decent makes them look really good."

22 Jump Street opens next Friday, June 15.
