Some of you favorite literary characters are jumping off the page and onto Showtime this summer.

Penny Dreadful, Showtime's highly anticipated new horrorfest, is set to premiere on Sunday, May 11, and it's bringing iconic characters such as Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and more back to the small screen. Book nerds, feel free to geek out at any time!

To get you even more excited for Penny Dreadful's debut, we've got the exclusive first look at the very first official cast portrait, which includes Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Timothy Dalton and more in all their spooky glory.

The eight-episode series from John Logan (Gladiator) centers on Hartnett as Ethan Chandler, a charming American who finds himself in the darkest corners of Victorian London, which are filled with things (or people) that go bump in the night after agreeing to help with Sir Malcolm (Dalton), a hardened explorer.

When Penny Dreadful was first announced at the 2013 Summer TCA Press Tour, Showtime boss David Nevins teased that viewers could expect the series to be quite scary, saying it's "smart and psychological, but we're not going to be gentle with the horror. I think it's going to scare the s--t out of people."

We recently shared an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the new drama, in which supervising producer Chris King explained, "Penny Dreadfuls were fiction publications in the 19th century. Each week Londoners would rush out to their local news stands to get their latest story. Penny Dreadfuls were unique because they were lurid storied of crime, the occult and the supernatural. Archetypes of characters that we know today were inspired by Penny Dreadfuls."

Penny Dreadful premieres Sunday, May 11 on Showtime.
