Celebrity fans tweet about the designer's sudden passing

L'Wren Scott's celebrity fans and friends are paying tribute to the designer after she was found dead of an apparent suicide in her New York City apartment Monday morning.

A spokesperson for Mick Jagger, the designer's boyfriend, said the Rolling Stones frontman was "completely shocked and devastated" by the sudden death of his girlfriend.

The 49-year-old designer had dressed some of Hollywood's biggest names including Sarah Jessica Parker, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman and Amy Adams. She had also collaborated with beauty guru Bobbi Brown. After the news broke of the designer's death, Brown posted on a message on her Facebook page:

"I am devastated by the tragic news about L'Wren. She was a visionary designer who I very much enjoyed working with, but she was also smart and kind. My thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to her loved ones during this very sad time. -Bobbi"

Fellow fashion designer Mac Jacobs remembered the star on his brand's Twitter account, writing: "Rest in peace, L'Wren Scott. You'll forever be missed." And Madonna shared in a statement: "This is a horrible and tragic loss. I m so upset. I loved L'Wrens work and she was always so generous with me."

Naomi Campbell update her WhoSays page with the following: "I am deeply shocked and devastated by the news. L'Wren was someone I knew since I was 17. We travelled the world together many times. L'Wren was someone I always loved. She was the epitome of elegance and femininity yet still had a girlish quality. I will miss her honesty and I will miss her friendship. My heart goes out to Mick and all who loved her and were loved by her. May she Rest in Peace."

Anna Wintour also released a statement, which read: "I am deeply saddened by the loss of L'Wren Scott. L'Wren was a total perfectionist, someone who absolutely embodied everything her marvelous clothes stood for: strength of character combined with a confident and powerful style.  In person, L'Wren was always unbelievably generous, gracious, kind, and so much fun. Her old world American manners and charm were from another time, but her sensibility was always fiercely modern. We will all miss her."

And finally a spokesperson for the late designer issued the following statement on Monday: "We confirm the tragic death of L'Wren Scott.  At this devastating time for Ms. Scott's family and friends, we request that their privacy be respected. There will be no further public statement for the time-being."
