"It's certainly more terrifying."

Don't turn off the lights before sitting down to watch tonight's episode of The Originals, its first new episode since taking a seat on the bench for the Olympics. (Boo sports!)

But be careful what you wish for as the CW hit will not be taking it easy on our favorite family of vampires, as Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) are being tortured by the vengeful witch Genevieve (Elyse Levesque). "It's slightly different to anything we've seen before. It's certainly not for the faint of heart" Joseph Morgan tells E! News of "Long Way Back From Hell."

But the torture just won't be physical as the devastating secret Rebekah and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) have been keeping from Klaus (they brought his father to New Orleans to kill him) will have a major impact on the Mikaelson family in the next three episodes.

"The next three episodes are all kind of part of the same story and trying to resolve the issue of this secret that was kept by Marcel and Rebekah from me, from Klaus," Morgan previews. "I felt like they're the best episodes we've done. We're just really finding our tone now and it's becoming a little more of a frightening show I think, which is good, because these are frightening creatures."

So what makes this betrayal by Rebekah so much worse than the other times she's conspired against him?

"We're talking about a hundred years of lying, which is quite big," Morgan explains. "It's also because it involves they're father, I think it has more weight to it, you know. It's very, very personal, this secret. So that's what gives it more weight."

And Marcel, Klaus' protégé, won't be  spared from the wrath of the hybrid, as Morgan teases, "I think if Marcel is lucky he will be allowed to leave New Orleans permanently. If he's not lucky, he will be killed."

Viewers will really not want to miss episode 16, which is mostly Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) "trashing it out" when they are trapped in a cemetery together. In fact, Morgan predicts the episode, titled "Farewell to Storyville," will be a "fan favorite."

"I love working with both of them, so it was a great  experience," Morgan says. "I feel like it will be a fan favorite. I have no doubt about that because there's enough action in it and they really play on the family dynamic. It's just putting the three of us in one place together almost the whole episode. It's really great."

Turning to The Vampire Diaries and Klaus' long-awaited hookup with Caroline (Candice Accola) in the 100th episode, Morgan has mixed feelings about the fan favorite pairing's decision to part ways, for good, after their one-time romp in the woods.

"I wondered if that could actually be a resolution, I was like, 'Is this really a resolution?' Because this is going to put fuel to the fire for everybody who roots for those two," Morgan admits. "I mean he was adamant with what he said, so then it was like a last fling before they went their separate ways forever."

But Morgan did have another ending in mind for the pair.

"I like the idea that there was a deleted scene afterwards where we're both sitting by the tree going, "'Huh. That was kind of terrible. All that buildup and that was really…'" And Klaus is kind of going "'Yeah, sorry about that.'" And her going, "'Yeah, huh.'"

The Originals airs tonight at 8 p.m. on the CW.
