Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead With Needle in Arm

A source told E! News the Hunger Games franchise actor was found on the bathroom floor in his NYC apartment

More details are surfacing regarding the circumstances surrounding Philip Seymour Hoffman's death.

A law enforcement source tells E! News that the 46-year-old Oscar winner was found dead on the bathroom floor, dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, with a needle sticking out of his left arm.

Two glassine plastic envelopes allegedly containing heroin, which read "Ace of Spades" and "Ace of Hearts," were also found near his body; eight more empty envelopes were found in various places in the apartment.

The law enforcement source also confirmed that Hoffman's girlfriend called one of his friends when Hoffman failed to pick up his children. Two individuals later found the actor dead.

Hoffman had struggled with addiction problems in the past, seeking treatment for abusing heroin in May 2013.

All seemed well the night before his death, with the Hunger Games franchise star out in New York City in good spirits with two other men, grabbing dinner at West Village eatery Automatic Slims Saturday, a source told E! News.

And just a few weeks ago, a source said the thesp looked "great and healthy" as he sipped on a milkshake in front of Chateau Marmont during Golden Globes weekend.

Following news of his death, Hoffman's friends and costars have paid tribute to the late actor, with his Charlie Wilson's War costar Tom Hanks telling E! News in a statement, "This is a horrible day for those who worked ‎with Philip."

"He was a giant talent. Our hearts are open for his family."

A source told E! News the actor's body was removed from the home Sunday evening.
