Kevin Mazur/WireImageNine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age closed out the 56th Annual Grammy Awards by performing with The Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham inside the Staples Center in L.A. on Sunday, Jan. 26.
Unfortunately, NIN frontman Trent Reznor is none too happy about being played off the stage.
The telecast, which ran nearly 45 minutes long, began to roll the credits before the set was over. "Music's biggest night... to be disrespected. A heartfelt F--K YOU guys," Reznor, 48, tweeted afterward.
Recording Academy president Neil Portnow explained the decision to cut the performance short. "We save the end slot for something that is a bit of a jam, because you can have the energy go and then it's just a matter of the clock," he told reporters backstage, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Reznor previously dissed the Grammys in December 2011, saying, "Why don't the Grammys matter? Because it feels rigged and cheap—like a popularity contest that the insiders club has decided."
Nine Inch Nails was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album for Hesitation Marks. The two-time Grammy winners lost to Vampire Weekend. Queens of the Stone Age was up for Best Rock Performance for "My God Is the Sun" and Best Rock Album for …Like Clockwork; they lost both awards.
Grohl, meanwhile, was nominated in the Best Rock Song category for "Cut Me Some Slack" and the Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media category for Sound City: Real to Reel. The musician, 45, won in both categories and accepted the award for Best Rock Song with The Beatles' Paul McCartney.
