NBCIt turns out that the real life Von Trapp family was less than pleased with The Sound of Music Live!—mainly because it starred Carrie Underwood.
Myles von Trapp Derbyshire, the great-grandson of Maria von Trapp, expressed his disapproval after learning about the casting decision almost a year ago.
"It's just upsetting that this could potentially be the final broadcast of our story," he told ABC News.
"And although her voice is amazing, she doesn't have acting experience…It's just the overall image, she's a country star, she won American Idol, she's very public in kind of a tabloid way."
If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it at all, right?!
Derbyshire, who currently resides in New York City, explained that the latest rendition does not honor his family's legacy.
"Now we have this glossy, tabloid figure playing this role," he added.
But his war of words didn't exactly end there.
In fact, Derbyshire even went as far as to suggest who he thought would've been a better choice for the famous role.
"[Our family has] had the conversations of who could play this role better and it was Anne Hathaway for example. Here's someone who just won an Oscar for a similar situation. She was able to act and sing [in Les Misérables]."
And to add insult to injury, Derbyshire's aunt Francoise von Trapp wrote a blog a year ago echoing the family's dislike of Underwood's involvement in the play.
"Carrie Underwood as Maria? Seriously?" she wrote. "I have nothing against her personally…can she act? I'd like to know who else is in the running."
