Bob Mahoney/The CW Confession: We aren't Team Delena or Team Stelena; We're Team Steroline!
Ever since Stefan (Paul Wesley) took Caroline (Candice Accola) under his wing after she became a bloodsucker in season two of The Vampire Diaries, the duo's friendship has been one of our favorite parts of the CW hit series. It took us by surprise as she brought out the lighter, fun side of Stefan, while he calmed the slightly neurotic side of her.
But could their friendship slowly be blossoming into something more, a la Dawson's Creek's Joey and Pacey? (Would that make Elena [Nina Dobrev] the Dawson?! Sorry girl, rough twist!) Well, it depends who you ask, as Paul Wesley and Candice Accola had very different opinions on a romantic relationship for the pair when we chatted with them on the show's Atlanta set.
Though it seems fans root for Caroline to hook up with almost everyone she shares a scene with (Because she is just the best, obviously), viewers seem to be particularly invested in her relationship with Stefan this season, something Accola said she understands.
"I can see why viewers of the show see a Caroline and Stefan connection of sorts; I don't think the characters themselves really think anything of it, if I had to jump into the Caroline brain," she explained. "But I can see them growing as friends, it's really up to the writers where these characters are going to go."
Plus, Caroline is totally Team Stelen according to Accola, who spilled, "I think Caroline truly believes Stefan and Elena are supposed to be together, so I can't imagine her, at this time, trying to get in the way of that."
But prepare for some whiplash, because Wesley has a completely different view of the Stefan and Caroline relationship. (And we love it!)
When we asked if he could see their friendship grow into something more, he quickly said, "Yeah, I can see that happening and I think it will happen. It's been a very slow process. They like to really take their time with it. They've been sort of hinting at it and teasing it, but it hasn't materialized."
And Wesley revealed he hopes to see something go down between the vamps very soon. "Hopefully within this season. They don't have very much time left for Stefan and Caroline to get in the sack. That, I think, needs to happen."
Word, Wesley. Word.
The Vampire Diaries airs tonight at 8 p.m. on the CW.
