Perhaps Charlie Hunnam has always had a Christian Grey side to him.

The hunky star, who has instantly become the face of many women's desires after being chosen to portray the male lead in the movie adaptation of the erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey, has given fans something else to fantasize about.

During an interview with E! News at the Sons of Anarchy premiere party over the weekend, we asked the actor how he feels about shooting so many scenes that require nudity, S&M and sex. Hunnam just flashed that amazing smile of his and told us, "I spent a lifetime preparing myself for that."

In all seriousness, Hunnam does feel extremely fortunate to bring such a popular character to life and looks forward to taking on the challenge.

"It's incredibly exciting. He's a very complex and fascinating character and I just feel really excited and delighted to be entrusted with the job of bringing him to life and its a big responsibility," he told us.

"He's a beloved character and millions and millions of people—I think 75 million copies of this book or something have been sold—so he's obviously a very well loved character and its a big responsibility to take it on but I didn't do it lightly. I did a lot of research and I did a lot of thinking about it and feel confident that I have a way to bring him to life that will be fun and exciting and honest."

And all the nudity and sex, well, "it's just part of the job," Hunnam says.

"It's what's so exciting about this job as an actor is you go out and get to experience things that you normally wouldn't have an opportunity to experience. I never thought I was going to be rolling around with motorcycle clubs and riding a Harley and feeling this level of brotherhood like I was part of a motorcycle club. I never thought I'd be engaging in S&M either, but that's kind of part of the wonderful journey of being an actor is you get to experience these things."

And fans will get to witness Hunnam experiencing these things on the big screen in August 2014.

(E! and Universal Pictures are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
