Britney Spears isn't one for romantic drama these days.

The pop star mother of two and boyfriend David Lucado are chugging right along as a couple, just as the frequent sightings of them companionably running errands and going on various outings together would imply.

They're technically "just dating" at this time, but they have a "very down-to-earth," "real" relationship, a source exclusively tells E! News.

"David doesn't date anyone else, he is exclusive," the insider says. "I think it is pretty serious and they're happy."

But they also certainly don't seem to be in any rush to enter joined-at-the-hip territory.

"They live separately and have separate lives, but they spend time and travel a lot together...Lucado has his own full-time business and is doing very well," the source adds.

Lucado, a Virginia native who more often than not wears his pride for the Virginia Tech Hokies on his sleeve (or head), has been seeing Spears since at least February. They were photographed for the first time together out on Valentine's Day, about a month after the singer broke off her engagement to Jason Trawick.

Since moving to California, Lucado has worked as a bartender and held down jobs in the insurance industry and at a law firm.

"He is very down to earth and there is never a dull moment with him," a high school pal of Lucado's told E! News in March. "He is full of life and liked to laugh, and is a fun person to be around. He is very charismatic. There was no doubt he was going to do well in life."

And all of Lucado's friends agreed that if anyone not from Britney's world could handle dating Britney, it was David.

"When they are apart, Britney calls and texts him and checks up on him just like every normal relationship," our source says. "They are a regular couple. I think they will be together for a while."

Lucado has also spent time with Spears' family, including her sons, Sean and Jaden.

Asked why things seem to be working out so well for Spears and Lucado, the source chalks it up to "a Southern thing."

"They have the same background, religions and Southern ways," the insider says.
