Nine seasons in and Supernatural is expanding its cult empire.
A spinoff of the long-running drama, which stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, is being developed at the CW, executive producer Bob Singer revealed to reporters at San Diego Comic-Con 2013 on Sunday.
The network plans to introduce the potential series as a backdoor pilot in episode 20, which will be written by Andrew Dabb.
The spinoff, however, will not be centered on a character Supernatural fans know and love but on a new character introduced in the episode, who will then anchor the new series, should it be picked up. While details are slim, the series is said to have a more urban feel than Supernatural.
This isn't the first time the CW has decided to work on a spinoff of one of their popular series: The Originals, which focuses on three characters from The Vampire Diaries, premieres this fall.
Supernatural returns for its 9th season on Tuesday, Oct. 15 on the CW.
