Olivier Martinez isn't playing patriot games when it comes to his first child.

"My son will remain an American, but I will remain French," Halle Berry's fiancé, who lives primarily in the U.S. with her, told People in Paris at the Champs-Elysées Film Festival.

"I remain a Frenchman in America, but I adapt to American culture," Martinez continued. "I feel good there—but I'm still a foreigner. My son will be an American."

This also marked the first time that either Martinez or Berry had referred to their first child together as a son.

E! News was first to report back in April, along with news of the actress' pregnancy, that they are expecting a boy.

The couple have also spent a fair amount of time in Martinez's native France. Berry had petitioned a judge to be allowed to move there full-time with the actor and her daughter Nahla, but Nahla's father, Gabriel Aubrysuccessfully opposed the plan in court.
