First their guy Harry Styles gets a shoe thrown at him during a concert on Tuesday. Then bandmate Liam Payne gets dissed by Boy George. Now One Direction isn't getting any love again from those music-obsessed folks at NME.
What's a boy band to do?
The British-based music publication has given the U.K. hitmakers its Worst Band prize at the NME Awards Wednesday night, the second year in a row One Direction's earned the dubious title.
And to add insult to injury, Styles also was named Villain of the Year thanks, we presume, to his less than amicable breakup with pop songbird Taylor Swift and his penchant for dating the cougar set.
The kudosfest, which took place at the East London venue the Troxy, did however dole out some more exalted honors (whose trophies, by the way, come shaped in the form of a provocative middle finger).
Case in point: Florence + the Machine picked up two prizes for Best Solo Artist and Best Dancefloor Anthem, the latter for her hit "Sweet Nothing" featuring Calvin Harris.
The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers gave thanks after the Las Vegas group won for Best International Band.
Proving they can still rock like no one else after 50 years together, The Rolling Stones snagged Best Live Band and Best Music Film. Guitarist Ronnie Wood took the podium to accept the awards on the band's behalf.
Other accolades went to The Maccabees, who took home Best Album for their third effort, Given to the Wild; Blur, which garnered Best Reissue for their album 21; and The Smiths' legendary guitarist and cosongwriter Johnny Marr, who was given NME's Godlike Genius award for his contributions to music. Marr later took the stage and played a six-song set with Wood and the Vaccines' Justin Young.
