Rejoice, Chuck fans! The NBC cult hit's fan favorite leading lady Yvonne Strahovski is finally back on our TV screens, thanks to Showtime's Dexter. Strahovski's mysterious role had been kept under wraps until tonight's episode "Buck the System," and viewers were in for a real surprise when her character was revealed.
Plus, one of Dexter's (Michael C. Hall) enemies bit the dust and Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) continued to deal with the fact that her brother is a serial killer.
Rehab Dropout: Though Dexter was willing to give Deb's rehab idea an honest effort last week, our favorite serial killer is feeling suffocated by his sis. "I feel trapped. Like there's no escape. She's got me penned in like a aged animal, and an animal is never more dangerous than when it's backed into a corner." Oh, he's also envisioning killing lots of people: the mailman, Masuka (C.S. Lee) and a suspect in a case. (All the kills were fun to watch, no?) You know what they say: Withdrawal is a b**ch.
Dexter tries to reason with Deb that she needs to back off, telling her she's trying to suppress something that he's learned to control. She pleads with him to think about Harrisonbefore agreeing to give him some space. So of course, he chooses a new victim: Raymond Spetzler, a killer who slipped through Miami Metro's cracks. Instead of just killing him, he decides to explain to process to Deb, who promptly freaks out and tells him the law will work in the end to catch Ray. "If it worked as well as you thought it did, I wouldn't be so busy," he counters, before adding that his "lizard brain" has been her secret weapon for a lot of cases over the years and she just didn't know it.
Of course, Dex is right about Ray and Deb breaks into his house as he's about to murder his next victim (in a sick torture room that was pretty disturbing). Dexter gets there in time to save Deb, but not before Ray gets away (after murdering the girl, no less). Deb later tells Dexter she hates what he does, but she understands it. What she doesn't get? The bloodslides, which tells her he likes to kill. "I like the way it makes me feel," Dexter clarifies. Both Morgan siblings say they can't change who they are and Deb tells Dexter to move out of her house. "I'm still your brother. Nothing's changed," Dexter tells an exhausted Deb. "Everything's changed. I don't know if it could ever be the same," she responds.
Yvonne Makes Her Debut: No wonder Dexter was trying to keep the Chuck star's role a mystery: She was Hannah McKay, the ex-girlfriend of Wayne Randall (Daniel Buran), the serial killer who killed himself in front of Dexter in last week's episode! (Color us surprised and delighted that she booked such a juicy role!) When Randall's mother hands over possible evidence to the police, they go to Hannah for help. Too bad she's not interested in reliving the past (she testified against Randall), but we couldn't help but notice that lingering look she gave Dexter as he was leaving (and did we detect some flirting?). Guess the girl has a thing for serial killers!
So Long, Pain in Dexter's Ass: It's been real, it's been good, but it ain't been real good, Louis (Josh Cooke). Yes, Louis was in the wrong place (Dexter's boat) at the wrong time (when Isaac went to track down Victor's body) and received a bullet in the head for his troubles. But not before revealing to Isaac that the boat actually belonged to Dexter. Ruh-roh!
Sleeping With the Enemy: Continuing his campaign for cop with the least amount of common sense on TV, Quinn (Desmon Harrington) is still pursuing Nadia (Katia Winter), the stripper from Isaac's (Ray Stevenson) club. Though Isaac asked Nadia to get close to Quinn to see if the cops found a bracelet, which contained a GPS chip (Yes, the strippers are also drug mules in the mob's heroin business), she actually likes him and tells him the truth. They promise to give each other just enough information to please both their bosses and to keep Nadia safe. This should end well horribly.
