New Holmes. New Watson. New York.

Why yes, yes we did just use CBS' tagline for Elementary as our opening line because it's that good and perfectly captures the network's new take on Sherlock Holmes, which premiered tonight. Elementary introduced viewers to pop culture's latest take on the old classic, which brings famous friends Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Dr. Watson (Lucy Liu) to the Big Apple. And, oh yeah, Watson is now a woman. (A fresh and welcome change for us.)

Now that you've met the new duo, we want to know: Were you impressed by Elementary?

Sure, you've met Sherlock and Watson before: movie junkies ate up Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law's version of the BFFs and fans of BBC's Sherlock practically believe Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman invented the characters.

Still, Elementary introduces us to a new Sherlock and Watson: Holmes and Watson are brought together by his past: she is his newly appointed sober companion (she's a former surgeon), and is pretty no-nonsense, but both are haunted by their respective pasts. She's suffering from some past trauma that pushed her out of the OR. And Holmes used drugs to forget some past trauma that pushed him out of London.

Elementary is simply a standout!

While Elementary is still a CBS show (aka your standard procedural), it's a pretty damn good one: We found the first mystery interesting and had a lot of fun watching Sherlock figure it out and there was enough humor to keep us entertained while he did so.

Now that you've heard from us, we want to hear from you: Did you enjoy Elementary as much as we did, or are you going to stick with other versions of the famous character? Vote in our latest Save It or Sink It poll and then head on down to the comments to tell us why you loved or loathed CBS' new drama.
